Lattissima PRO vs PLUS

So far, we’ve talked about the Lattissima EN720 and EN680 in our blog, and we’ve lined out the difference between them. In this post, we’ll be looking at two other lattissima models, the Lattissima Pro and Lattissima Plus.

What Is The Difference Between The Lattissima Pro and Lattissima Plus?

Like many other espresso machines, these might look quite similar when you see them for the first time. And they are, to some extent. There are two main similarities in these two machines:

  • They are powered by Nespresso’s Capsule system. So you can ONLY use Nespresso capsules with them.
  • They have an integrated milk frother which heats and froths the milk automatically and pours it right into your cup.

What about the differences?

  • The DeLonghi Pro is a newer, much polished and much improved version of the Lattissima Plus.
  • The PRO features a touch-screen display which allows you to easily customize your drinks. The PLUS has push-buttons.
  • The PRO has 6 drinks already pre-set and ready for you to try! All pre-sets can be reprogrammed as well. The PLUS has 3 drink pre-sets.
  • Design wise: The Lattissima PRO featured beautiful Italian design, full stainless steel body with blue LED blacklight indicators. The PLUS has plastic body, and available in few colors.
  • Both machines has detachable milk frothers, but with the Lattissima PRO you can have milk froth without the need to brew coffee, which you can use for hot chocolate for example. This option isn’t available in the PLUS.
  • The Lattissima PRO features a hot water dispenser which gives you boiled water instantly.

What is a Keurig Vue Machine and How it Works:

The Keurig Vue is a coffee maker that uses special pods to create your coffee. The Vue cups (different than Keurig’s K-Cups) are available from MANY different coffee brands like Starbucks, Green Mountain, Donut Shop, Caribou, Folgers and many more. It can make coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cappuccino and latte as well as many other beverages that are provided as Vue-cups.

A Keurig Vue machine does not require you to froth or heat milk to create gourmet coffee drinks, the entire Cappuccino/Latte ingredients are already within the vue-cup. So a simple push of a button will create your whole drink from the vue-cup. Same goes for other drinks.

It’s important to understand that the Keurig is not an espresso machine (though Keurig does have the Keurig Rivo 500 espresso machine) The Keurig Vue is a coffee maker and beverage center.

A Nespresso Machine is a single-serve ESPRESSO machine. It works to brew espresso only, in different and programmable volumes. You’ll be able to create gourmet coffee drinks by using the Nespresso milk frother (or any other frother) to froth your milk as your drink requires.

Nespresso’s machines use Nespresso capsules exclusively. While they do have a wide range of espresso blends in different flavors, they only offer espresso pods.

Which One Should You Get? A Keurig Vue or a Nespresso?

That’s a question you can only answer yourself. Think about your daily coffee habit, which drinks do you prefer most? Are you an Espresso person, a full cup of coffee brew person? Do you want a machine that also makes tea and other drinks? Do you prefer a certain brand that you can only find as a Vue-cup?

But let me try to make this simpler for you:

  • If you prefer a wide range of hot beverages, and not just cappuccinos and lattes, you can get yourself a Keurig.
  • If you’re mainly looking for Cappuccinos, lattes, Macchiatos and other espresso goodness, you’ll want a Nespresso. While a Keurig can offer you that, a Cappuccino pod CANNOT compare to  a Cappuccino made with freshly extracted espresso and fresh steamed milk.

Nespresso_DeLonghiNespresso

If you’ve been researching Nespresso machines you might have come across a few machines that are branded DeLonghi Nespresso, which are different from Nespresso machines. Are you confused between the two? Actually, the difference is quite simple:

Nespresso Machines:

These machines are manufactured by Nespresso. They use Nespresso’s patented coffee capsules system to brew espresso with a touch of a button. Most Nespresso machines extract espresso only, in two or three cup sizes. But if you want to make coffee drinks like lattes or cappuccinos, you’ll have to bundle your machine with Nespresso’s electric milk frother (or any electric frother). See some excellent Nespresso bundles here.

Some Nespresso machines we’ve previously reviewed:

DeLonghi Nespresso Machines:

In these machines, two of the best espresso and coffee brands come together to create excellent homes espresso machines. These machines are manufactured by DeLonghi, but they use Nespresso’s capsules system to make the espresso (you’ll be buying Nespresso capsules to make the coffee), that’s what they bring from Nespresso’s world. And being a DeLonghi machine, they get their patented single touch ‘Hot Milk’ system, which is a detachable milk tank that attach to the machine and with a single touch it heats and mixes the milk to perfectly froth it for your choice of milk-based coffee drink. This means you won’t need to buy a milk frother separately. And being a detachable milk tank, it allows you to simply save any left-over milk in the fridge for next use.

Some of DeLonghi Nespresso machines reviews:

Are you getting your first espresso machine at home? If that’s the case, here’s our recommendations for your first machine. We chose these machines based on a few factors:

  1. Ease of use: they’re easy to use and get a hang of. Nothing too complicated for the starting barista.
  2. Price range: They’re very well priced under $300. There’s no need for you to spend $1000s on a machine when you’re still not ready.
  3. Durability: These machines should last you a few good years until you’re ready to upgrade to a larger or more sophisticated machine. By that time, you’ll sure be a professional at using an espresso machine at home.

1. Breville ESP8XL Cafe Roma Stainless Espresso Maker:

Breville ESP8XL Cafe Roma Stainless Espresso Maker

The Breville Cafe Aroma is simply beautiful, a shiny stainless steel machine that looks like a commercial machine, yet it’s made with the home user in mind. It comes with everything you need to get you started: a double filter that you can use with ground coffee or espresso pods, a steam want for milk frothing, a set of stainless steel espresso cups, and a milk pitcher.

Read our full review of the Breville Cafe Aroma by clicking here.

2. DeLonghi EC702 15-Bar-Pump Espresso Maker:

DeLonghi EC702 15-Bar-Pump Espresso Maker

The DeLonghi EC702 is also a great starter machine for beginners. Also stainless steel built like the previous one, it is easy to clean and maintain. While it does have the double filter and a steam wand, it lacks the extra accessories (the stainless steel cup set and pitcher), so you’ll have to buy those separately.

Click here for our full review of the DeLonghi EC702 Espresso Machine.

Note: For best results possible, you are recommended to brew your coffee using fresh ground espresso. If you don’t have a coffee grinder, see our recommended grinders here.

3. Nespresso CitiZ Automatic Espresso Maker:

Nespresso Citiz C120 Espresso Maker with Aeroccino Milk Frother

A Nespresso maker is as easy and convenient as it gets for a coffee lover. It won’t turn you into a barista, but it’s an excellent machine to make espresso and gourmet coffee drinks with a touch of a button. This machine uses Nespresso capsules that are pre-measured and make you the perfect shot every single time. All you have to do is insert a capsule and press a button, within a second you’ll be all set! The machine also comes with an automatic milk frother that creates hot or cold froth in under a minute.

You can read our full review of the Nespresso Citiz here.

So, we’ve decided to create this comparison of the top rated single-serve espresso machines to help you with your buying decision.

DeLonghi EN680.M Nespresso Lattissima Single-Serve Espresso Maker_Espresso

The DeLonghi EN680 M is not the latest in the DeLonghi Lattissima line, we’ve already featured the EN720 which is the latest one. Both machines work the same, but the EN720 is – obviously – an upgraded version with slight differences.

What’s the difference between DeLonghi Lattissima EN680 M and EN720 M?

The only difference between the two machines is in the Memory Function and Indicators for capsule tank and water tank:

  • The EN680 M features a memory function for Cappuccino, Latte and Macchiato. EN720 M has a memory function for: Cappuccino, Latte, Macchiato, Espresso, Long coffee, Milk and Hot Water.
  • The EN680 lacks the indicators that tell you that your capsules drawer is full and an empty tank indicator. The EN720 has both indicators.

As for everything else, the two machines are identical. There’s about a $300 price difference between the EN680 and the EN720, so you need to make sure which features are most important to you.

Nespresso CitiZ C110 Espresso Maker

The Nespresso CitiZ Automatic Espresso machine will attract you at first sight. This machine has a distinctive retro-modern look that makes it stand out from other machines. But apart from its looks, how does this automatic espresso machine work? If you’re someone who wants a gourmet coffee drink – not just espresso – with a push of a button and without any mess or cleaning required, and most importantly, for a very low budget, a Nespresso the the best pick for you!

Features:

  • Fully automated. Not much needs to be done by you. Perfect for lazy coffee lovers.
  • Very user friendly. Don’t know much about espresso and how to make it? Well, with this machine you don’t have to. You’ll get the perfect shot of espresso, every time, with a push of a button!
  • The machine uses pre-measures capsules that you insert into a capsule slot. Press the button and few seconds later, you’ll have a perfect shot of espresso.
  • The machine includes two pre-set buttons, Espresso for a single shot and Lungo for a double shot.
  • No cleaning is required other than taking the capsule out. It even features a used-capsule container which can hold up to 11 used capsules before you have to dispose them. But you will need to descale it every few months (2 to 3 months).
  • The high pressure 19 bar pump ensures great extraction of the espresso with a strong body and nice creamy layer on top.
  • An integrated milk frother enables you to froth your milk quickly and easily for making great milk-based coffee drinks, such as Cappuccino and Latte.
  • The capsules are available in a great variety of flavors, with different roast and flavors.
  • It features a 1 liter removable water tank. A removable drip tray and a cup support which can be adjusted for the two cup sizes (regular cup and espresso/macchiato cup).
  • It is available in three different colors: Fire-Engine red, Limousine Black and Silver Chrome. Choose whichever color will compliment your kitchen decor the best!

Any downside to this espresso machine?
The downside is not machine related exactly. Some customers believe the capsules to be a bit pricey (yet, still cheaper than your regular chain lattes). But for an Espresso machine of its features and at an affordable price, and most importantly the convenience it offers, the price of the capsules will be a very small price to pay.
